The Dive Trip Packing Checklist for Europe and Beyond
Packing for a dive trip is a balancing act between bringing the gear you trust and keeping your bag within the airline limit. Use this list and adjust for your destination.
Always bring
- Mask and snorkel. A mask that fits you is the single best item to bring.
- Dive computer and spare battery or charger.
- Certification card and logbook, physical or digital.
- Wetsuit or rash guard, suited to water temperature.
- Reef-safe sun protection and a hat.
- Surface marker buoy and whistle.
Consider bringing
- Regulator, if you want a familiar set-up. Carry it in your hand luggage.
- BCD, if you have a compact travel model.
- Fins. Travel fins save weight, though check they suit your kick.
- Underwater camera and spare memory card.
Usually rent
Tanks and weights are provided by dive centres, and BCDs and regulators are easy to rent. If you travel with only a few dives planned, renting reduces baggage fees.
Carry-on essentials
Pack your computer, regulator, mask and any camera in your carry-on. If your checked bag is delayed, you can rent the rest.
Before you go
- Check your destination’s requirements for certification and insurance.
- Confirm that your computer’s battery and firmware are up to date.
- Leave a margin for the flight: wait the recommended time before flying after your last dive, per your agency’s guidance.
Protect your kit with a good dive bag.
